Decarboxylation, or “decarbing,” is the process of heating cannabis to activate the THC and other cannabinoids. This is necessary when making edibles, tinctures, or other cannabis-infused products. Here is a simple method for decarbing weed:

Ingredients:

  • Cannabis flower or trim
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 240°F (115°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Break up the cannabis flower or trim into small pieces and spread them out in a single layer on the parchment paper.
  4. Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, depending on the freshness and moisture content of the cannabis. Check the cannabis every 10 minutes and gently stir it to ensure even heating.
  5. When the cannabis is golden brown and dry to the touch, remove the baking sheet from the oven and let it cool.
  6. Once the cannabis has cooled, it can be used in your desired recipe or stored in an airtight container.

Notes:

  • Decarbing cannabis at a higher temperature or for a longer time can degrade the cannabinoids and result in a less potent product.
  • Be sure to use a timer and monitor the cannabis closely to prevent it from burning or overheating.
  • Decarbed cannabis can be quite potent, so be sure to use it in small amounts and test the potency of your product before consuming a full dose.
